On Saturday, October 1, 108 Street re-opens from 132 Avenue to 150 Avenue following upgrades to the roadway, installation of a new pedestrian pathway, and installation of new traffic signals.
The City of Grande Prairie and County of Grande Prairie are pleased to have partnered to install traffic signals at the intersection of 108 Street and 132 Avenue. The traffic signal project was completed to accommodate higher volumes of traffic, improve safety for motorists and improve the connectivity between the municipalities. The cost of the traffic signal installation project was shared equally between the two municipalities.
The City of Grande Prairie completed additional upgrades in the area including paving the roadway to improve the drive surface and safety for commuters, as well as the installation of a pedestrian pathway on the east side of 108 Street to improve connectivity for pedestrians, cyclists, and other active transportation and recreation modes.
"We are pleased to have collaborated with the County to install these traffic signals at a crucial intersection that provides County residents access to the City,” says City of Grande Prairie Mayor Jackie Clayton. “Regional collaboration is integral in enhancing residents' quality of life, ensuring safe communities, and offering top-notch amenities and services beyond municipal lines."
“The County is glad to see this connection officially established between our communities, supporting safe and efficient travel across municipal boundaries,” says County of Grande Prairie Deputy Reeve Peter Harris. “Collaborating on important projects, like this transportation infrastructure improvement, benefits residents throughout the region.”
The City and County thank commuters for their patience during construction.
