Residents can now submit applications for the 2024 Clean Energy Improvement Program (CEIP). The CEIP is an innovative financing tool that helps residential property owners pay for energy efficiency and renewable energy upgrades.
“We’re excited to re-introduce this program for its second year to support residents in reducing their energy consumption, benefiting from cost savings, improving property values and to help achieve the community's sustainability goals,” said City of Grande Prairie Mayor, Jackie Clayton. “This program reflects our commitment to fostering a more sustainable and vibrant city for generations to come.”
Types of eligible upgrades homeowners can apply for include:
- Doors, windows, insulation and air sealing.
- Heating, ventilation and air conditioning.
- Lighting.
- Renewable energy, solar PV and thermal.
- Water heating.
- Custom upgrades.
What is the Clean Energy Improvement Program?
The CEIP provides property owners with flexible, affordable and long-term financing through their municipality.
Unlike traditional loans, the financing is tied to the property and not the property owner and repayment is facilitated by a tax added to the property's tax bill. This means that property owners can make energy efficiency and renewable energy upgrades with financing that can be transferred to the new property owner if the property is sold.
The City of Grande Prairie’s Clean Energy Improvement Program is administered in partnership with Alberta Municipalities and made possible with funding from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM).
