The City of Grande Prairie has partnered with the Alzheimer Society to offer the Minds in Motion® program at the Eastlink Centre.

Minds in Motion® is a program designed for those with early to mid-stage Alzheimer’s disease, or another dementia, and their care partner.

The program provides a dementia-inclusive and fun space for participants to enjoy light physical activity and mental stimulation in a social environment with their care partner. The goal is for participants to improve balance, mobility, flexibility and alertness while increasing confidence.

Certified fitness staff at the Eastlink Centre received specialized training from the Alzheimer Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories to offer this course to residents in the Grande Prairie region.

Providing programs like Minds in Motion® creates more accessible recreation and socialization opportunities for members of our community at City facilities.

“Introducing Minds in Motion® at the Eastlink Centre is a huge milestone for our facility, and for the community,” says Angela Redding, General Manager of the Community Knowledge Campus. “We strive to be a state-of-the-art recreational facility for users of all ages and abilities, and we believe this program is a great addition to creating inclusivity and a high quality of life for all Grande Prairie residents.”

The first Minds in Motion® program is open for registration and runs on Tuesdays from September 13 to October 18.
