The City of Grande Prairie is inviting the community to the grand opening of a new historical art exhibit called “$10 & A Dream” taking place at the Kin Gallery in the Heritage Discovery Centre on April 21.
The event is from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and includes light snacks, refreshments and speeches.
The exhibit features four Peace Country artists’ contemporary work, special artifacts, articles and catalogues that honour both the artists' and the region’s past.
This historical exhibit is on display until September 18, 2022.
About the Artists
Carmen Haakstad, Suzanne Sandboe, Jim Stokes and Tim Hiemdal are the four artists who created and curated the exhibit. They are the grandchildren of people who settled in the Peace Country in the early 1900s.
Back then, the Peace Country was known as the “land of opportunity” or the “last frontier” where you could buy a quarter section of land for only $10 to build a homestead and raise a family on.
The artists pulled together their love of land, family and art to create this historical exhibit and pay tribute to those that came before us.
