The City of Grande Prairie welcomes everyone in the community to celebrate the Grand Opening of the Activity and Reception Centre.

The event takes place Sunday, April 10 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Activity and Reception Centre located at 9401 Park Road.

A ribbon-cutting is taking place at 1:15 p.m. with Mayor and Council to officially open the facility, followed by free public drop-in.

The drop-in provides use of space and equipment for the following activities:

  • Skateboarding and strider bikes
  • Badminton
  • Pickleball
  • Basketball

The community event also features light snacks, a live DJ, facility tours and a photobooth.

“Since the opening of the Activity and Reception Centre my family has been to drop in several times. It provides the community with an affordable option for recreation and allows kids to try a variety of sports,” says community member Jessica Picard. “Indoor options are invaluable in the winter months and I really enjoy having another place where families can participate and be active together.”

“Having this new hard surface recreation center is great for our youth. Keeping them active and engaged will only make Grande Prairie more vibrant,” says Drew Rogers, Operations Manager at Nitehawk Year-Round Adventure Park. “The mobile skatepark equipment is a perfect addition. It will be well used and enjoyed by families and is an example of progressive thinking by our city to enhance facilities.”

“Council is excited to celebrate the official opening of this facility. This new addition is increasing opportunities for recreation and play across the city, contributing to a healthy and vibrant community,” says Mayor Jackie Clayton.
