Notice: 

Due to federal temporary foreign worker reductions, the province is prioritizing applications for the Rural Renewal Stream from candidates with valid work permits expiring in or after 2025. Candidates that are not currently holding a valid work permit expiring in no less than 6 months, will not be assessed by the City of Grande Prairie for an endorsement letter. Candidates that do not hold a valid work permit expiring in 2025 or later may not apply for an endorsement letter for this program currently. 

Application acceptance dates, targets and processing times are posted on AAIP and are subject to change. Applicants and prospective applicants should regularly visit the AAIP website for the most current information and updates.

The City of Grande Prairie is proud to be a designated community under the Rural Renewal Stream of the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program. 

The Rural Renewal Stream offers eligible workers the opportunity to immigrate to Alberta as a Provincial Nominee with the formal support of the municipal government.

With the support of this program, the City of Grande Prairie fills local labour gaps by endorsing employers and job seekers to fast-track permanent residency for eligible candidates.

All inquiries related to the Rural Renewal Stream will be responded to within a 30-day cycle.

Preparation and Information 

Your business and candidate must meet all eligibility criteria before applying.

Your applications will be declined if you do not meet the criteria.

Employer fees are illegal. Employers and employment agencies cannot charge employees fees for a job or employment offer. Call the Alberta government information line at 310-0000 and ask for Employment Standards or the Temporary Foreign Worker Advisory Office if you have any questions or concerns to report.

Participation in the program is a privilege, not a right.

The City of Grande Prairie is not obligated to assess/process any applications. Applications are treated as an Expression of Interest (EOI), and as such, will be processed according to quality of the application (completeness, eligibility), labour market information, occupational supply and demand forecasting, program application volumes, and/or any other factors at the Community Partnerships discretion. By submitting an application to the City of Grande Prairie’s Rural Renewal Stream Immigration Program you acknowledge and agree that your application may not be processed in the order received, or at all. Further, the decision to assess/process any particular application, and the outcome of any such assessment/processing, is at the City of Grande Prairie’s Rural Renewal Stream Immigration Program sole discretion.

Employers

Employers located within the City of Grande Prairie who are interested in participating in the Rural Renewal Stream to fill labour gaps and support candidates in attaining permanent residency, can visit the Employer Information Page

Whether or not a business is permitted to participate in the Rural Renewal Stream is at the sole discretion of the City of Grande Prairie’s Rural Renewal Stream Immigration Program. Participation in the program is a privilege, not a right.

Candidates

Non-Canadian residents who are interested in obtaining permanent residency by living and working within the City of Grande Prairie should visit the Candidate Information Page.

Whether or not a candidate receives an endorsement letter is at the sole discretion of the City of Grande Prairie’s Rural Renewal Stream Immigration Program. Participation in the program is a privilege, not a right.

Applying for the Rural Renewal Stream as an employer or candidate can be a confusing process. The steps outlined below help to clarify the responsibilities of employers and candidates.

Grande Prairie Rural Renewal Stream Community Partnership

The Grande Prairie Rural Renewal Stream Community Partnership is made up of community stakeholders with a shared mandate of supporting employers and newcomers to the community.

The partnership is made up of:

  • The City of Grande Prairie
  • The Grande Prairie and District Chamber of Commerce
  • The Council for Lifelong Learning

The ‘Community Partnership’ is responsible for supporting the City of Grande Prairie in identifying eligible employers and endorsing candidates who are a good fit for the community and are interested in applying for permanent residency through the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program – Rural Renewal Stream.
