About Snow Storage in Residential Areas:
- When plowing in residential areas, snow is either:
- Windrowed and stored on the side of the road
- Pushed past the curb, windrowed, and stored on the City boulevard
- Piled and stored in the centre of a cul-de-sac.
- Storing snow in these three ways may result in narrower roads and loss of on-street parking in some neighbourhoods.
- Hauling snow from residential areas occurs after all other snow clearing activities have occurred. It is a low priority service and does not have a service standard outlined in the snow and ice control policy. There is no dedicated crews or equipment assigned to this task, to ensure crews are available to respond to changing weather and roads where traffic is heaviest (priority 1 and 2 routes).
- City and contracted crews clear windrows in front of driveways but will not clear windrows to facilitate on-street parking.
