Snow Clearing Update - January 17 to 21, 2022

There are two main ways the City runs snow plowing and ice control operations:

Priority Road Plowing and Ice Control
  • Occurs continuously throughout the winter in response to changing weather conditions.
  • The goal is to plow arterial (priority 1) and secondary (priority 2) roads to maintain clear access for emergency vehicles and general commuters.
  • Includes ice control operations such as sanding and salting, as well as windrow pick-up.
Residential Snow Clearing
  • Occurs in two-week rotations only when triggered by the City.
  • If a neighbourhood is not complete in week one, crews will return in week two.
  • Operated Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • The City hires contracted crews to plow residential roads.

Cobblestone, Fieldbrook, Highland Park, Riverstone and Smith.

Thursday

Kensington, Mission Heights, O’Brien Lake and Stone Ridge.

Pinnacle Ridge and Westpointe.

Friday

Arbour Hills, Gateway, Northridge, Royal Oaks and Westgate.

Lakeland, Crystal Ridge, Copperwood, and Crystal Lake Estates.

January 21, 2022 

  • Residential snow clearing crews are currently plowing in the neighbourhoods of Arbour Hills, Copperwood, Crystal Lake Estates, Crystal Ridge, Gateway, Lakeland, Northridge, and Royal Oaks.
  • City crews continue to plow priority 2 and 3 roads. 
  • Ice control is ongoing on all priority roads.
  • Windrows are being picked up from priority 2 roads in Signature Falls and Country Club.
  • The plowing of trails is ongoing.
  • A parking ban remains in effect on permanent snow routes.

January 20, 2022

  • A parking ban on all permanent snow routes remains in effect, restricting parking from Monday to Friday between 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and allowing snow removal crews safe and efficient access to roadways.
  • Residential snow clearing continues.
    • Today, crews are in the neighbourhoods of Mission Heights, O’Brien Lake, Pinnacle Ridge, Stone Ridge, and Westpointe.
    • Tomorrow, crews are in the neighbourhood of Arbour Hills, Copperwood, Crystal Lake Estates, Crystal Ridge, Gateway, Lakeland, Northridge, and Royal Oaks.
  • City crews are actively plowing priority 2 and 3 routes.
  • City crews are monitoring priority and residential roads for icy areas and sanding as needed.
  • Windrows are being picked up from priority 2 roads in Patterson Place, and Countryside South.
  • The plowing and sanding of trails and paths are ongoing.

January 19, 2022

  • Sander and plow trucks are on all priority roads actively sanding for ice control. 
    • A reminder to travellers to drive with caution as roadways are icy. During extreme cold crews only use sand for ice control as salt is less effective. Once temperatures rise above -13, crews will increase the amount of salt used as part of the ice control program.
  • Crews have completed plowing priority 1 roads and are working on priority 2 and 3 roads.
  • Crews are currently plowing residential roads in the neighbourhoods of Avondale, Cobblestone, College Park, Fieldbrook, Highland Park, Riverstone, Smith, and Swanavon.
    • Tomorrow, they will be in the neighbourhoods of Mission Heights, O’Brien Lake, Pinnacle Ridge, Stone Ridge, and Westpointe.
  • Windrows are being picked up from priority 2 roads,  Patterson Place, and Country Club Estates.
  • Snow and ice control is in progress on all trails.
  • The parking ban on permanent snow routes remains in effect.

January 18, 2022

  • Plowing of priority roads 2 and 3 is in progress.
  • Residential snow clearing crews are currently plowing roads in the neighbourhoods of Country Club Estates, Countryside North and South, Country Club West, Patterson and South Patterson, Southview, and Signature Falls.
    • Tomorrow, they will be in the neighbourhoods of Avondale, Cobblestone, College Park, Fieldbrook, Highland Park, Riverstone, Smith, and Swanavon. 
  • Crews are actively monitoring all priority roads and sanding as needed.
  • Windrows are being picked up from priority 2 roads, Crystal Heights, and Mission Heights.
  • Crews are plowing and sanding the trail network.
  • A parking ban remains in effect on all priority roads from Monday to Friday between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m.

January 17, 2022

  • City crews have completed plowing priority 1 roads.
  • Crews continue to plow and sand priority 2 roads.
  • Crews are actively sanding all priority roads in response to changing weather conditions. 
  • Crews are currently plowing residential roads in the neighbourhoods of Crystal Heights, Crystal Landing, Hillside, Ivy Lake Estates, Mountview, Summit, and VLA/Montrose.
  • Windrows are being picked up from priority 2 roads, Crystal Heights, and Hillside.
  • Trails continue to be plowed and sanded.
  • The parking ban on permanent snow routes remains in effect.
