Completion work is underway on the safety and maintenance upgrades to the Bear Creek Dam with some larger work items starting on Thursday, June 1.
The work began in August of 2022 and is being finalized by the contractor, with an anticipated completion date of June 30.
As part of the construction, the temporary pedestrian bridge and associated pathway is closed and being removed, resulting in pedestrian traffic being rerouted onto a temporary gravel surface along the dam crest (the original walking trail) once fencing is put in place.
During this time, there may be a short term closure of the trail over the dam and the temporary bridge simultaneously, resulting in pedestrian traffic being required to reroute to adjacent bridges to cross Bear Creek.
Once the trail with the temporary surface over the dam opens, minor short term disruptions are anticipated while paving work is underway over the next two weeks.
Following completion of the paving work, pedestrians will be able to use the trail across the top of the dam (the original trail) and construction will continue on either side of the trail with minor disruptions to be expected as equipment crosses the trail.
The City thanks all trail users for their patience and cooperation during this important project work. For more project details, visit this page: cityofgp.com/bearcreekdam.
