The City of Grande Prairie has begun its annual fall and winter tree pruning program, as a key part of caring for Grande Prairie’s urban forest. Pruning takes place from Oct 1, 2026, to March 31, 2027.
The work is focused on protecting elm trees, which are highly susceptible to Dutch elm disease. Crews are also pruning other public trees that need maintenance, helping the urban forest stay healthy and resilient.
Pruning is scheduled during the provincially regulated fall and winter months, when elm bark beetles are inactive. This greatly reduces the risk of disease spreading and supports the long-term health of the city's tree canopy.
City Parks crews are moving through boulevards, streets and parks on a rotating schedule and responding to urgent concerns as needed.
Residents are reminded not to prune City boulevard trees themselves at any time and are encouraged to help care for the community’s trees by reporting any that may need attention. To report a tree, contact AccessGP by calling 311 or visit cityofgp.com/trees.
