Snow Clearing and Ice Control Operations January 19-23

Snow Clearing and Ice Control Operations January 19-23

There are two main ways the City runs snow plowing and ice control operations:

Priority Road Plowing and Ice Control
  • Occurs continuously throughout the winter in response to changing weather conditions.
  • The goal is to plow arterial (priority 1) and secondary (priority 2) roads to maintain clear access for emergency vehicles and general commuters.
  • Includes ice control operations such as sanding and salting, as well as windrow pick-up.
Residential Snow Clearing
  • Occurs in two-week rotations only when triggered by the City.
  • If a neighbourhood is not complete in week one, crews will return in week two.
  • Operated Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • The City hires contracted crews to plow residential roads.

Snow Clearing and Ice Control Operations January 19-23

This week, City crews are focused on winter maintenance and follow-up work across the city.

Work this week includes:

  • Ice control: Sanding crews will patrol roadways to address slippery sections.
  • Windrows and snow storage: Crews will continue breaking up and removing windrows and hauling snow from cul-de-sacs and other snow storage areas. This work will continue in various neighbourhoods over the coming weeks.
  • Back lanes: Targeted back lane clearing will take place where access and conditions allow.
  • Flood control: Crews will open and steam catch basins to support snowmelt management and help reduce water pooling as temperatures fluctuate.
  • Facilities and parking lots: Snow pile removal and cleanup will continue at City facilities and parking areas.

Parking bans remain in effect on permanent snow routes, including Priority 1 and Priority 2 roads, to support ongoing operations.

Snow and ice concerns can be submitted through the City’s online reporting tool at
https://access.cityofgp.com/s/

Operations may adjust based on weather and road conditions. Updates will be shared as needed.
