The City of Grande Prairie has been selected as a recipient of $15,000 in funding from the 2025 ATCO Community Energy Fund to complete an energy audit at the Dave Barr Community Centre, an important step in planning future improvements that strengthen efficiency and support the facility’s long life in the community.

The audit provides a detailed, third-party assessment of how the facility uses energy, where waste may be occurring and what improvements could reduce costs, improve performance and lower environmental impacts. It includes a full review of utility use, building systems and the overall condition of the facility to identify immediate opportunities and areas that may need attention in the future. The final report helps the City plan future upgrades, support long-term renewal and strengthen eligibility for future grant opportunities.

“The Dave Barr Community Centre has been a gathering place for families, athletes and community groups for decades, and we’re grateful to ATCO for supporting this audit to help identify what upgrades can be made to keep it thriving for many more. By understanding where we can improve efficiency and reduce operating costs, we can make smart, future-focused investments that support a well-loved facility and the people who use it every day,” said City of Grande Prairie Mayor, Jackie Clayton.

The Dave Barr Community Centre has undergone several upgrades in recent years, including the installation of a REALice system and improved ventilation to enhance performance and reduce operating costs. The audit will build on these efforts by providing detailed, evidence-based recommendations for the next phase of improvements.
