“On behalf of City Council, I want to extend heartfelt condolences to the vendors, staff and families affected by the recent fire at the Grande Prairie Farmers’ Market. For many of us, this building has been more than a commercial space. It has been a place to see familiar faces, discover new local makers, and share in traditions that connect our community. Its loss is deeply felt.
I want to acknowledge the Farmers’ Market leadership, vendors, and volunteers who are working through the difficult aftermath of this incident. I am also incredibly grateful to our firefighters and emergency responders for their swift and professional response to ensure community safety.
We encourage residents to continue showing their support for our local vendors as the Market transitions to a temporary home in the Tara Centre at Evergreen Park. Shopping local has always been a cornerstone of our community spirit, and it is especially meaningful in moments like this.
To the vendors, I know this is a challenging time. As plans evolve, please stay connected with the Farmers’ Market team, who will be sharing ongoing information and updates. The City will continue to work alongside them to support this transition wherever possible.
Grande Prairie is a city that consistently rallies behind those in difficult times. I know our community will continue to stand behind the Farmers’ Market and the small businesses that make it such an important part of our city.”
