Stompede parade road closures and transit impacts on May 23

Temporary road closures and transit detours will be in effect in downtown Grande Prairie on Saturday, May 23, for the 2026 Stompede Parade.

The parade begins at noon, travelling westbound along 100 Avenue from 95 Street to Muskoseepi Park. Residents are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra travel time in the area.

Traffic impacts

Starting at 5 a.m.

100 Avenue westbound closes between 98 Street and 102 Street. North-south traffic remains open on 98 Street, 99 Street, 100 Street, 101 Street and 102 Street.

Starting at 10 a.m.

95 Street between 108 Avenue and 100 Avenue becomes restricted to local traffic as parade marshalling begins. A full closure follows closer to parade time.

Starting at approximately 11:30 a.m.

100 Avenue westbound closes at 92 Street.

Westbound drivers will detour via 116 Avenue and 68 Avenue. Local traffic can still access:

  • Hillside via 101 Avenue and 92 Street 
  • Smith and Morgan Meadows via 96 Avenue and 92 Street 

North-south traffic at 96 Street and 100 Avenue will also be restricted around noon.

During the parade

Rolling closures will affect north-south traffic from 96 Street to 102 Street as the parade progresses. Detours will be available via 92 Street or 108 Street.

Cross streets reopen once the parade passes and spectators have dispersed.

Estimated duration

The parade is expected to take about one hour from start to finish.

Transit impacts

Several transit routes will be unavailable from noon to approximately 1:15 p.m., including Routes 3, 4, 6, 7 and 8.

Temporary stop closures

From 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.

  • Route 3 – Stop 302 
  • Route 4 – Stop 402 
  • Route 8 – Stop 802 

From noon to 2 p.m.

  • Route 1 – Stops 3000, 164 and 166 

Routes 2, 5 and 9 remain in regular operation throughout the day.
