December 17
Following a significant snow event, with more snow in the forecast, crews are working around the clock to keep key routes moving across the city.
Today’s snow clearing work includes:
- Blading: Crews are working on Priority routes such as 108 Street, 100 Street and 124 Street.
- Windrow removal: Underway in Crystal Ridge, Lakeland and Crystal Lake Estates.
- Sanding and echelon plowing: Crews are working on main arterial routes including 116 Street, 84 Avenue and 132 Avenue. Echelon plowing is when plow and sand trucks work side by side across all lanes in one direction to clear snow and apply traction at the same time. This helps crews clear multi-lane roads more efficiently. Please give crews space while this work is underway.
- Rural roads: A dedicated sanding truck is patrolling rural Priority 3 roads bordering the city.
What to expect as work continues:
- Crews and equipment are operating extended hours in response to current weather conditions.
- Motorists may notice slower travel and brief delays while active snow removal is underway, particularly on arterial routes where larger equipment is working.
- Arterial roads are addressed first to support transit, emergency access and overall traffic flow. Crews will continue progressing through the road network based on priority as conditions allow.
- With continued snowfall, crews are moving snow off driving lanes to keep roads open. As snow storage areas fill, some locations may temporarily have narrower driving lanes or reduced street parking. Crews will return to address snow storage once the snow event ends. Cooperation during parking bans helps this work move along more smoothly.
