Sidewalk safety improvements begin south of 84 Avenue

The City of Grande Prairie will begin sidewalk maintenance the week of August 3 at locations throughout the southern third of the city.

The work will address uneven concrete at approximately 407 sidewalk locations south of 84 Avenue identified through the City's Sidewalk Inspection Program, including assessments completed through SafeSidewalks Canada. Crews will grind or saw-cut raised sections of concrete to create a smoother transition between adjacent sidewalk panels. Final locations and quantities may change based on field conditions, operational requirements and available budget.

Work is expected to continue until November 15, weather permitting.

Pedestrian access

Short, localized sidewalk closures or pedestrian detours may be required while work is underway. Safe pedestrian access will be maintained around active work areas.

Traffic impacts

Major traffic impacts are not anticipated. Temporary traffic controls may be required where work is taking place near roadways.

Residents are asked to follow all posted signs and pedestrian detours, remain clear of workers and equipment, and use caution around active work areas.

Residents with questions about the project can contact AccessGP by calling 311 or emailing info@cityofgp.com.
