The City of Grande Prairie has opened its free community sandbox for the season, giving residents an easy way to help prevent slips and falls by adding traction to sidewalks and driveways throughout the winter.
The community sandbox was created after the 2022 Snow and Ice Service Review, inspired directly by resident feedback during public town halls requesting easier access to sand for winter traction.
Located on the west side of the City Service Centre (9505 112 Street) near the south end of 112 Street, outside the gates, the sandbox is available for residents to collect up to two, five-gallon containers of sand for personal use at their convenience.
This simple service supports safer travel for neighbours, delivery drivers and anyone moving through the community during icy conditions.
