Aquatera downtown watermain replacement begins June 15

Aquatera Utilities is scheduled to begin watermain replacement work along 99 Avenue between 102 Street and 101 Street on Monday, June 15. Work is expected to continue through the end of July.

Motorists should anticipate notable traffic impacts, including:

  • Eastbound traffic on 99 Avenue reduced from three lanes to one lane through much of the project area.
  • Changing traffic patterns and turning movements at the 99 Avenue and 102 Street intersection as work progresses. 
  • Delays and increased travel times.
  • A 30 km/h speed limit within the construction zone.
  • Access to all businesses will be maintained throughout construction.

Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time and follow posted signage and directions from traffic control personnel.

Pedestrian access

Pedestrian access through the area is expected to be maintained throughout construction. One sidewalk is anticipated to remain open at all times, although temporary detours and designated crossing locations may be required depending on the phase of work. Pedestrians should use marked crossings, obey temporary signage and use caution around active construction areas.

Transit impacts

Transit users should anticipate delays throughout the construction period as reduced traffic capacity on 99 Avenue may affect route timing and connections.

  • Delays may affect multiple routes across the transit network.
  • Transit stops 168 and 352 are expected to be temporarily impacted during a later phase of construction.
  • Temporary stop locations and any route adjustments will depend on the active construction phase and lane closures in place at that time.
