Earlier today, some residents received a text message about RCMP criminal record checks in error. 

This message was sent to our full notification list due to a selection mistake in our vendor’s platform and was not the result of a security or privacy breach. The error did not expose any personal information. 

The impact has resulted in increased call volumes and stress on City phone systems, including RCMP non-emergency, AccessGP, Community Knowledge Campus and Bonnetts Energy Centre.

We have issued a follow-up text message to everyone impacted to please disregard the earlier message. No further action is required at this time. 

AccessGP sends these notifications on behalf of RCMP non-emergency services, and this system has provided timely, convenient updates to many residents over the past two years. 

We apologize for the confusion and appreciate your patience as we review and strengthen our verification steps to prevent this from happening again.
