(Grande Prairie, Alta. – April 30, 2026) – The City of Grande Prairie is beginning its annual mosquito control operations on May 2, helping reduce mosquito populations and support residents in making the most of the warmer months.

Mosquito control work begins in spring and may continue through September, depending on weather conditions. The program focuses on treating mosquito larvae in temporary standing water using a product approved by Health Canada that is designed to specifically target mosquitoes.

A primary treatment includes a helicopter application within the City’s mosquito control boundary, typically occurring in late April or early May. The City continues to monitor mosquito activity throughout the season and adjusts ground treatments as needed based on conditions.

Residents in areas scheduled for treatment will be notified in advance and provided with additional details about the operation. Those with questions or concerns are encouraged to contact AccessGP by dialing 311 or emailing info@cityofgp.com.
