The City of Grande Prairie is moving directly into a second round of residential snow clearing following a nearly 60 cm snowfall across the community this December.
The new two-week round begins Monday, December 22, as crews wrap up the first declared rotation. Residential snow clearing follows a two-week schedule, with Week A neighbourhoods addressed in the first week and Week B neighbourhoods in the second. Crews work to complete each neighbourhood on its assigned day.
Crews will also be working extended hours throughout the weekend on priority clearing and windrow removal in response to this week's snowfall.
“December has brought extreme snowfall, and our crews have been working long hours to keep neighbourhoods moving,” said City of Grande Prairie Mayor, Jackie Clayton. “As we move into a second round of residential snow clearing during the holiday season, I want to thank residents for planning ahead, moving vehicles when possible and looking out for one another. On behalf of City Council, I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season.”
Holiday schedule adjustment
With Christmas Day falling during Week A, a one-day adjustment is required to keep the rotation on track. Neighbourhoods normally scheduled for Thursday of Week A — Kensington, Mission Heights, O’Brien Lake and Stone Ridge — will be skipped on Christmas Day and instead cleared on Saturday, December 27.
Week B neighbourhoods begin the following Monday and are not impacted by the holiday schedule. Aside from Christmas Day, statutory holidays will not affect residential snow clearing, and operations continue as usual.
Preparing for your clearing day
- Move vehicles off the road from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on your assigned clearing day to help crews clear streets thoroughly.
- With extra vehicles in neighbourhoods over the holidays, residents are kindly asked to plan ahead and follow parking bans wherever possible.
