The City of Grande Prairie has opened applications for the annual Neighbourhood Outdoor Rink Program, supporting residents in building and maintaining small community skating rinks in neighbourhood parks this winter.
The free program provides approved applicants with the supplies and training needed to install and maintain a rink throughout the season. City staff also complete monthly hazard assessments on each site to help ensure safety.
Applicants must have a group of at least five volunteers to assist with building and maintenance and identify a proposed park location.
The deadline to apply is December 15. Residents are encouraged to submit applications early to allow enough time for construction before the ground freezes and significant snowfall occurs.
“Neighbourhood rinks are a great way for residents to get outside, stay active and connect with their neighbours,” said City of Grande Prairie Mayor, Jackie Clayton. “This free program makes winter recreation accessible close to home, supporting Council’s priority of enhancing quality of life and building an inclusive and caring community.”
