The City of Grande Prairie invites residents to dig in and pick up free gardening supplies at GP Grows: Dig It on Saturday, May 9 from noon to 4 p.m. at Keyera Place, located at 9401 Park Road.
This free, drop-in event provides seed potatoes, seed onions, bare-root strawberry plants and triple-mix soil to support home gardening and encourage residents to explore growing their own food. Supplies are available on a first-come, first-served basis while quantities last. Participants are asked to bring their own pail or container, up to a maximum of 20 gallons.
Attendees can also enter to win a backyard orchard that includes apple, plum and pear trees, as well as berry bushes.
Triple-mix soil is generously provided by KLon Services.
“GP Grows is about making it easier for residents to get started with growing their own gardens while connecting with others in the community,” said City of Grande Prairie Mayor Jackie Clayton. “Dig It brings people together in a hands-on way that reflects the kind of welcoming, active community we continue to build in Grande Prairie.”
City staff will be on site throughout the event to answer questions, offer guidance and share tips to help residents get the most out of the growing season.
