The City of Grande Prairie begins its annual pest control operations in early May, weather depending, to help manage invasive species, pests and plant diseases while supporting the health of trees, parks and green spaces across the community.

Operations typically run from May through October, targeting noxious weeds, insects and plant diseases on City-owned land within municipal boundaries. Crews use a combination of chemical, mechanical and manual treatments, with methods selected based on site conditions and monitoring. All products used are registered with Health Canada’s Pest Management Regulatory Agency.

Under the Alberta Weed Control Act, property owners are responsible for identifying and controlling noxious weeds on their own land. These invasive plants can spread quickly and impact surrounding properties and natural areas if not managed. More information, including photos and identification details, is available at cityofgp.com/pestcontrol.

Noxious weeds in public areas or along roadways can be reported to AccessGP through the online portal at access.cityofgp.com.
