Due to extreme weather conditions, the City of Grande Prairie is redirecting snow removal efforts to priority roads and postponing the next round of residential removal to Monday, December 29.

The previously announced second round of residential snow clearing, scheduled to begin Monday, December 22, will now begin Monday, December 29.

City and contracted crews are concentrating efforts to support Priority 1, 2 and 3 road maintenance across the city with a focus on main arterial roads, transit routes, emergency access and collector roads. Work includes plowing, sanding, echelon operations and snow removal.

The City thanks residents for their cooperation and patience as we work to keep the city connected during this extreme weather. Since December 5 there has been:

  • 2,054 truckloads of snow hauled off city streets.
  • 158 loads per day on average.
  • Approximately 21,000 tonnes of snow removed in the past two weeks.

What to Expect Next Week

The second round of residential snow clearing will proceed as a full two-week rotation beginning Monday, December 29, following the standard Week A and Week B schedule. No changes are being made to the residential clearing sequence once the rotation begins. Residents are reminded to move vehicles off the road on their assigned day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to support this work.

Winter parking bans remain in effect on Priority 1 and 2 routes Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. to support snow clearing operations. Motorists are encouraged to travel to the conditions and give snow clearing equipment space while crews are working.
