GENERAL INFORMATION 

Plan Your Trip 

SUPERPASS Grande Prairie Transit uses electronic fare boxes. The system uses a re-loadable, electronic smart card, known as SUPERPASS, which makes it easy and convenient to simply tap-and-go to pay your bus fare. 

Transfers 

  • Transfers are free on GP Transit. 
  • No paper transfer is required if you use a SUPERPASS.
  • Ask your Transit Operator for a transfer when paying cash.
  • Use the paper transfer with the barcode to scan on your next bus.
  • Transfers are valid for 120 minutes after the transfer is issued. 

Where’s My Ride To find out when your next three buses are scheduled to arrive: 

  • On your computer visit: cityofgp.com/transit and click on the “Where’s my Ride?” bus tracker button. Enter your route and stop number. 
  • On your smartphone, go to: gpt.mytransitride.com and enter your route and stop number. 
  • Google Transit On your computer or smart phone visit: cityofgp.com/transit and click on the “Google Transit Trip Planner” button.

Fares and SUPERPASS

Grande Prairie Transit buses use re-loadable electronic smart cards known as the SUPERPASS for rides. Cash payments in the forms of coin only are also accepted.

Benefits of SUPERPASS

Track your balance anywhere, any time online; Your card can be cancelled in the event of loss. The remaining balance on the card can be transferred to a new card.

Special Conditions

  1. Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) card holders ride free when presenting their card to the transit operator.
  2. Children 5 and under ride free when accompanied by a paying adult. Maximum four (4) children per adult. 
  3. All youth in the City of Grande Prairie, aged 17 years and under, are entitled to free transit with a valid Youth SUPERPASS card. 

Community Bus Services

Grande Prairie Public Transit is proud to offer three specialized community bus services: On-Demand Transit, Late-Night On Demand Service, and Accessibility. These services are designed to meet the diverse needs of our community, ensuring convenient, safe, and accessible transportation options for all residents.

On-Demand Service

On-Demand Transit is a convenient and innovative way to keep our community connected with neighbourhoods that are better served by on-demand transit than fixed route transit.

 About On-Demand Transit:

  • Schedule rides up to three days ahead of time (recommended) or request immediate pickup day of. 

    Same day bookings must be made within 30 minutes of your pick up time.

  • Pickup at the closest bus stop within your neighbourhood.
  • Drop-off at the nearest transit hub or another On-Demand neighbourhood stop.
  • All Transit customers can enjoy On-Demand service

Benefits of On-Demand Transit:

  • Trips available during regular transit hours using a shuttle bus service.
  • More direct, often shorter travel times.
  • Operational efficiencies enhance overall transit service.

Late Night On-Demand Service

Late night service is available from any transit stop to any other transit stop and is not exclusive to on-demand zones.

Regular bus fare applies.

Hours:

  • Monday to Saturday: 9 p.m. to 11 p.m.
    • Last booking 30 minutes before end of service.
  • Sunday: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
    • Last booking 30 minutes before end of service. 

The goal of late night on-demand service is to provide transit service in the most effective and efficient manner by responding directly to ride requests as they come in. It also allows riders to travel more directly, based on their requested bus stops and not along a fixed route.

The expanded hours come as a response to rider feedback for improved service options, so the City can better service its residents and connect the community.

  • All of the On-Demand Transit shuttle buses are equipped with a wheelchair lift.

Accessibility Features

  • Accredited service dogs are permitted with a lead and harness.
  • Strollers are permitted but must be folded and stowed away and cannot be wheeled on.
  • Bike racks that hold two standard bicycles are available on each bus
  • Infant safety carriers for those children who weigh less than 20 pounds or 9 kilograms are required. Bucket style infant carriers should be buckled into the seat belt provided.
  • Regular fares apply for all on demand buses and a transfer will be issued upon request to connect to a regular transit bus at a transit hub.
