Construction on the Muskoseepi Skatepark expansion is scheduled to start on June 18.

Skateboarding, freestyle BMX bike riding, in-line skating and parkour have become extremely popular in the community. The expansion will attract skateboarders from across Grande Prairie and surrounding area and will create an aesthetically pleasing environment that appeals to non-skateboarders.

"The City and New Line Skatepark Inc. hosted multiple community consultations and online surveys looking to gain as much input and feedback from park users, funders, operators, park neighbours and all other community stakeholders on proposed expansion designs as possible," says Karen McGriskin, Manager Sport Development, Wellness and Culture.

The expansion includes:

  • Turnaround Quarter Pipe
  • Skateable Seating
  • Slappy Curb & Brick Texture Bank
  • Manual Pad in Slappy Bank
  • 16' Flat Ledge
  • Mini Hip
  • Spine & Roll-Over Combo
  • 4' Deep Flow Pocket
  • Roll-In to Waterfall Bump
  • 7' Deep End Pocket
  • Mini Roll-In Wave Transition

A detailed three-dimensional model of the expansion is available to view online at bit.ly/muskoseepiskateparkexpansion. The construction of the park is budgeted at $430,000.

The skatepark will be closed during construction. The skatepark adjacent to the Eastlink Centre at #10 Knowledge Way will remain open and available for use.

A construction completion date of early September 2018 has been set. All schedules are tentative and subject to change.
