City Council highlights for the meeting held August 8, 2022:

Moment of Silence

Council observed a moment of silence in memory of Councillor John Lehners’ passing.

Delegations

Marc Tyler presented to Council regarding crime rates and community safety.

By-Election

Council set Monday, October 17, 2022, as the date for a by-election to fill the vacancy of the office of one Councillor position.

As per provincial legislation, a by-election is required to be held within 120 days of a Council vacancy.

Boards & Committee Appointments

Council approved the recommendations for Standing Committee Appointments and Board/Committee Appointments as presented.

Correspondence

Council received a letter from the Minister of Culture, awarding the City of Grande Prairie the 2024 Alberta Winter Games.

Council directed Administration to contact regional partners regarding their interest in cost sharing and gifts in kind associated with hosting the 2024 Alberta Winter Games.

Transportation System Bylaw C-1452 Revised

Council postponed third reading of the revised Transportation System Bylaw C-1452 and directed the Mayor and Administration to undertake further advocacy efforts for additional Highway 43 access points.
