Municipal Police Transition

Grande Prairie City Council approved a transition towards a municipal police service and away from the RCMP. Details are available in the press release.

Council approved the 2023 Business Improvement Area (BIA) budget, as presented.

 

2023 Large-Scale Tourism Funding

Council allocated 2023 Large-Scale Tourism Grant Funding in the amount of $75,000 to the 2023 Bear Creek Folk Music Festival.

Council allocated 2023 Large-Scale Tourism Grant Funding in the amount of $50,000 to the 2023 GrandeCon event, hosted by the Odyssey House.

 

2023 Grant Allocations

Council approved art and sport grant funding allocations in the following amounts:

  • Festival Funding to the Grande Prairie Pride Society in the amount of $10,000.
  • Festival Funding to the Filipino Association of Grande Prairie & Area in the amount of
  • $7,000.
  • Festival Funding to the ACFA – régionale de Grande Prairie in the amount of $9,250.
  • Festival Funding to Evergreen Park in the amount of $5,000.
  • Festival Funding to the Centre for Young Parents in the amount of $14,000.
  • Festival Funding to the Grande Prairie International Street Performers in the amount of $14,000.
  • Festival Funding to the Centre for Creative Arts in the amount of $7,500.
  • Festival Funding to the Troyanda Society of Ukrainian Culture & Heritage in the amount of $11,350.
  • Festival Funding to the Grande Prairie & District Music Festival Association in the amount of $1,000.
  • Arts Development Operational Funding to the Grande Prairie Music Society in the amount of $5,000.
  • Arts Development Operational Funding to the Peace Region Independent Media Arts Association in the amount of $5,000.
  • Sport Hosting Grant Funding to the Grande Prairie Curling Centre in the amount of $8,000.
  • Coach Development Funding to Theresa Thompson in the amount of $529.28.

Correspondence

City Council accepted for information a letter from Minister Ellis outlining $9.7 million in financial support over two years, should the City choose to proceed with a transition to a municipal police service.

City Council accepted for information a letter from Dr. Kelly Sundberg, Ph.D, a criminology professor at Mount Royal University, praising the City of Grande Prairie on our efforts to improve policing.
