The Eastlink Centre aquatics area will fully close to accommodate annual aquatics maintenance scheduled from September 5 to October 22, 2023.
Shutdown maintenance and repair work will affect the 50-metre pool, 25-metre pool, lazy river, family hot tub, adult hot tub, FlowRider, wading pool and splash pad.
Some of the higher priority tasks include:
- Deep cleaning of all amenities, including the diving boards;
- Addressing broken tiles and repairing lights;
- Completing line painting in the 50-metre pool basin;
- Refurbishing the 25-metre pool liner;
- Repairing the 50-metre pool bulkhead mechanical drive system;
- Completing over 3,100 square metres of deck resurfacing;
- Installing sound mitigation panels; and
- Preventative maintenance and mechanical repairs to the boilers, pumps, filtration and disinfection systems.
Eastlink Centre aquatics shutdowns typically last four weeks; however, the City has extended the closure to seven weeks in 2023 to accommodate more extensive and larger maintenance work.
Much of the work to be completed during this shutdown follows a ten-year maintenance cycle and has not been done since the facility opened.
The Aquatera Outdoor Pool will remain open for as long as weather allows to ensure residents have swimming opportunities.
“Regular maintenance and repair work is completed annually to ensure the longevity, functionality, safety and efficiency of the aquatics area in order to meet the evolving needs of our community,” said Angela Redding, Community Knowledge Campus General Manager. “We appreciate everyone’s understanding and patience during this shutdown to support the continued maintenance and enhancement of this vital recreation resource in our community.”
During the shutdown, staff are completing ongoing employee training and development to enhance their skills and knowledge by completing emergency protocol training sessions and updating certifications. Providing these resources to staff helps ensure the safety and well-being of residents.
