(Grande Prairie, Alta. – September 18, 2026) – Young residents interested in sharing their perspectives and becoming more involved in their community are encouraged to apply to join the City of Grande Prairie’s Youth Advisory Council (YAC) before applications close on October 15.
Open to youth ages 14 to 24, YAC provides an opportunity for young people to share their perspectives on issues affecting Grande Prairie and provide input directly to City Council, City departments and community organizations.
“Council values the opportunity to work with Youth Advisory Council members and hear directly from young people about their experiences in Grande Prairie,” said City of Grande Prairie Mayor, Jackie Clayton. “Their perspectives help us better understand what matters to youth and ensure their voices are part of conversations about our community.”
Throughout the year, YAC members meet regularly to discuss local issues and provide feedback on City programs, services and initiatives. YAC’s current focus is on increasing youth participation and supporting youth wellbeing. For the upcoming term, YAC members will explore opportunities to have an impact in these areas and create positive change for young people in Grande Prairie.
Being part of YAC gives members experience working with municipal government and community organizations while building valuable leadership, communication and collaboration skills they can carry into school, work and future opportunities.
”YAC has been a great way to connect with other youth in the community and meet people I probably wouldn’t have otherwise,” said Tarandeep Namsot, Youth Advisory Council Vice Chair. “I’ve learned more about how the City works and had the opportunity to make sure youth voices are heard. The experience I’ve gained is something I know I’ll carry with me into the future.”
YAC welcomes high school and post-secondary students and young professionals who want to become more involved in their community. No previous leadership or municipal experience is required.
Applications are open until October 15.
