The City of Grande Prairie is introducing a new event called “Experience Grande Prairie” to celebrate different projects and places in the community.

Each day of the event takes place at different times and on streets in downtown Grande Prairie on Friday, August 26 and Saturday, August 27.

This year the event focuses on Grande Prairie’s City Centre, allowing residents to visit and explore downtown while attending the fun and free event.

Activities on Friday, August 26

Experience Grande Prairie kicks off with adult-focused entertainment and activities on Friday, August 26 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The event can be found on 101 Avenue (between 100 Street and 101 Street) and on 101 Street (between 101 Avenue and 100 Avenue) on Friday, August 26.

Various activities are available for eventgoers to enjoy on Friday, including:

  • Live entertainment featuring Trooper (from 8:15 p.m. to 10 p.m.) and Who Made Who (from 6:15 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.)
  • Top 40s hits playing from 5 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.
  • Beer gardens
  • Art walk showcasing historical photos of downtown
  • Experience Downtown Passport
  • Scavenger Hunt

The live entertainment is appropriate for all ages. The beer gardens include free entry and patrons will be welcomed on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Experience Downtown Passport allows eventgoers to grab a passport and visit businesses in downtown Grande Prairie to get stamps from each one. Get five stamps and bring your passport back to the City booth for a chance to win one of 12 City Centre gift cards or a downtown prize pack.

Activities on Saturday, August 27

Family-friendly activities on Saturday, August 27 provide many opportunities for visitors with children to enjoy Experience Grande Prairie from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The event can be found on 100 Avenue (between 100 Street and 102 Street) and on 101 Street (between 101 Avenue and 100 Avenue) on Saturday, August 26.

Family fun activities on Saturday include:

  • Live entertainment featuring the Confusionaires (3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.), Travis Fowler Band (1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.) and Mandee Rae (12:45 p.m. to 1:15 p.m.)
  • Experience Downtown Passport
  • Art walk showcasing historical photos of downtown
  • Wagon rides
  • Kids zone with bouncy castles
  • Scavenger hunt
  • Roaming entertainment
  • Municipal showcase
