The City of Grande Prairie's annual community celebration Tuesday attracted thousands of residents and visitors.

Municipal Government Day, held at Revolution Place, saw 4,440 burgers and 2,550 hot dogs distributed. Municipal and community information exhibits and the Kid's Zone, featuring bouncy castles and face painting, were popular attractions. Other highlights included a City equipment display, the Grande Prairie Marching Band, and the Amazing Race.

A gathering of council members and administration from the region attracted representatives from as far away as Fort St. John.

This year's theme was Grande Prairie – 60 Years Strong in recognition that 2018 marks 60 years since Grande Prairie became a City.

Youth Art Contest

Winners from the Municipal Government Day Youth Art Contest will be announced Monday at City Council. The overall winner will receive an iPad. The winner in each grade category will be awarded a bike and helmet. Second and third place finishers are vying for Eastlink Centre prizes.

Young artists in the community were encouraged to match this year's Municipal Government Day theme by presenting submissions reflecting the city since 1958 or focusing on what Grande Prairie might look like in the next six decades.
