Mayor Jackie Clayton proclaimed October 20-26 Small Business Week in Grande Prairie.
Our small business sector is one of the greatest strengths of our local economy and the City of Grande Prairie is proud to support our business owners and dedicated employees who make our community a vibrant and rewarding place to be.
Delegations
Cory Gundersen and Sean Leonard presented to Council in regards to tendered towing companies.
Council directed Administration to bring a report back to the appropriate Standing Committee outlining what legal tow requirements exist in the event of a motor collision and how residents can find information on the City's contracted tow company.
Sale of Smith Land to Smith Social Enterprises
Council designated 9601 Park Road as marketable and approved the sale to Smith Social Enterprises Ltd. for the purchase price of $1, subject to the execution of an offer to purchase containing terms and conditions satisfactory to the City Manager and City Solicitor. Council directed the Mayor to write a letter of support.
The proposed Agreement includes the following terms and conditions:
- The purchase price for the Land is set at $1.
- Smith Social Enterprises is required to construct a residential development of not less than 160 residential units on the Land.
- For a period of twenty (20) years, thirty (30) percent of the units will be rented as affordable housing units in accordance with CMHC requirements.
- For a period of twenty (20) years, the City will have a right of first refusal with respect to any proposed sale of the Land.
- If Smith Social Enterprises does not commence construction, or does not complete construction, by certain specific dates, the City will have the option to buy back the Land.
