Application Process

• Step 1: Review Program & Complete the Self-Assessment Tool

  Interested Candidates review the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) website for program criteria and eligibility and complete the Self-Assessment Tool. Only candidates who meet the eligibility criteria should proceed to Step 2.

   

• Step 2: Submit Email of Intent

  Interested and eligible Candidates submit an email of intent to the City of Grande Prairie Rural Entrepreneurship Stream Program at entrepreneurship-immigration@cityofgp.com indicating their business model (purchase an existing business or start a new business).

  Statement of Intent should demonstrate an understanding of the community, sector and experience as an owner/manager of a business and confirmation that Step 1 is complete and the candidate meets the AAIP minimum requirements. You should indicate understanding of the AAIP process and timelines, your intent for an exploratory visit with proposed contacts and refer to the Business Plan Guidelines provided by AAIP. 

• Step 3: Exploratory Visit & Pre-screening Interview

  Invest Grande Prairie reviews documentation and may conduct a pre-screening interview with the candidate to review program eligibility and participation in the program.

  Candidates coordinate an exploratory visit to the community and document the visit as required by the AAIP Entrepreneurship program. Visa and logistics requirements are the sole responsibility of the candidate.

• Step 4: Rural Entrepreneur Stream Business Proposal

  Candidates provide a copy of a completed Rural Entrepreneur Stream Business Proposal Summary to Invest GP at entrepreneurship-immigration@cityofgp.com Applications will be reviewed on a 30-day cycle.

• Step 5: Letter of Endorsement

  Invest GP reviews the proposal and successful candidates are issued a letter of endorsement. Proposals that are not supported are not issued a letter of endorsement. Candidates may re-apply only if they are advised to do so by Invest GP.

• Step 6: Community Endorsement

  Invest Grande Prairie reviews the proposal and successful candidates will have the Rural Entrepreneur Stream Business Proposal Summary signed. You can find that document here. 

  Proposals that are not supported are not issued an endorsement. Candidates may re-apply only if they are advised to do so by Invest Grande Prairie.

• Step 7: Provincial Nomination

  Candidate completes an Expression of Interest for provincial nomination through the AAIP Portal -Rural Entrepreneurship Stream.

• Step 8: Provincial Process and Invitation to Apply

  The Expression of Interest is reviewed by the province and further documentation may be required, an ‘Invitation to Apply’ may be issued.
