The City of Grande Prairie has started seasonal street sweeping operations on arterial roads.
Street sweeping includes cleaning debris from the roadway, medians, concrete barriers, and boulevards.
Sweeping of the arterial and collector roadways and transit routes is anticipated to last until late May, weather dependent. City crews have also begun sweeping City trails.
Upon completion of arterial roads, crews will begin sweeping secondary roads, then residential. Residential street sweeping is expected to begin in late May and is anticipated to be complete by the end of June.
Street sweeping of arterial roads takes place 24 hours a day starting Sunday at 10:00 p.m. to Friday at 10:00 p.m. Motorists are advised to use caution when passing street sweepers, as they travel at a speed of about 5 to 10 km/h when collecting debris.
"We appreciate the patience and understanding of residents as we conduct our seasonal street sweeping operations,” says Transportation Services Director Wade Nellis.
Debris collected by street sweeping operations consists of mud, dirt, gravel, rocks, leaves, and other natural debris. Upon collection, the debris is discarded at the Aquatera landfill.
