Delegations

Sarah Card from the Bear Creek Folk Festival presented to Council regarding funding for this year's festival, as well as support for future infrastructure purchases.

2024 Advocacy Priorities

Council approved the 2024 Advocacy Priority List.

Since 2021, City Council has published an annual list of its advocacy priorities. These priorities outline the actions Council would like other orders of government to take to improve the lives of City residents.

The key advocacy priorities for 2024 are:

 - Electricity Distribution Costs;

- Health Care Supports

- Medical First Response Funding;

- Northwestern Polytechnic Support; and

- Provincial and Federal Funding for Housing Needs

Other advocacy priorities include:

- Improved Rail Service

- Provincial Changes to Automated Traffic Enforcement; and

- Immigration Biometric Scanning

Bear Creek Folk Festival Sponsorship

Council approved $50,000 in sponsorship to the Bear Creek Folk Festival through the Sponsorship Fund, plus an additional $30,000 from Council Strategic Initiatives Fund to the 2024 event.

Council directed Administration to bring back a report, after consultation with the Bear Creek Folk Festival, to acquire assets which can be rented by organizations within the City. Council further directed Administration to bring back a report, after consultation with the Bear Creek Folk Festival, about potential infrastructure upgrades at Borstad Hill and/or Ernie Radbourne Pavilion to enhance community events, including partnership opportunities.

Grant Recommendations

Council approved Arts Development Funding and Sport Hosting Grant allocations.

Policy 202 and 213 Amendments

Council approved housekeeping amendments to Policy 202, Ice Booking Priorities, and Policy 213, Ball Diamond Priorities.

Downtown Business Improvement Area (BIA) Budget

Council approved the 2024 Business Improvement Area (BIA) budget.

Stormwater Drainage Bylaw Update

Council received the report on the Stormwater Drainage Bylaw update for information.

Council directed Administration, during 2025 budget deliberations, to quantify the cost of stormwater services in the City's budget.
