Proclamations

City Council proclaimed November 24-30 National Addictions Awareness Week in Grande Prairie.

The week is an opportunity to raise awareness of the impacts of addiction, highlight supports available in the community and work together to reduce stigma and support recovery.

Tax Recovery Sale

Council approved the 2023 Tax Recovery Sale to take place Friday, March 14, 2025 by public auction and established the reserve bids.

2024 Q3 Financial Report 

Council received the unaudited financial statements and supporting information for the period ending September 30, 2024 for information.

Amendments to Policy 351 - Tangible Capital Assets 

Council approved amendments to Policy 351- Tangible Capital Assets to include updated definitions and minor housekeeping items.

Policy 360 - Corporate Asset Management 

Council approved Policy 360 - Corporate Asset Management and rescinded Policy 354 - Asset Management as part of continuous improvement efforts for the asset management implementation plan.

This updated policy reflects significant modernization efforts and incorporates revisions to meet grant requirements. The policy now emphasizes sustainability, collaboration, continuous improvement, forward-thinking, risk-informed decision-making for asset replacements, and long-term resilience, striving to balance financial responsibility with the City's service goals.

FCM Grant Application 

Council supported an application to the Federation of Canadian Municipalities' Local Leadership for Climate Adaptation call for proposals to complete a Climate Adaptation Plan.

This initiative supports municipalities in developing comprehensive climate adaptation strategies to address climate risks, enhance resilience, and adapt infrastructure to future climate impacts.

Fibre Optics: Fee Rebate & Broadband Analysis 

Council approved the Fibre Optics Fee Rebate Program, allowing for up to a 100% rebate on municipal fees, for fibre alignment projects initiated between July 1, 2024, and December 31, 2025; and directed Administration to proceed with the Broadband Analysis. 

This project aligns with the City’s priority to foster a resilient local economy by enhancing broadband infrastructure. It supports economic growth, boosts digital connectivity, and strengthens Grande Prairie's competitiveness, ensuring readiness for future economic opportunities.

Elections Bylaw C-1480

Council had first reading of the Elections Bylaw and directed Administration to prepare amendments which will prohibit taking photographs or videos of ballots for reasons other than assisting voters with visual disabilities, and postpone vote on second reading to the December 2 City Council meeting. 

Grande Prairie Regional Competitiveness (Invest NW) Committee Terms of Reference 

Council approved the Terms of Reference for the Grande Prairie Regional Competitiveness (Invest NW) Committee.

Land Use Bylaw Amendment C-1260-187

Council gave third reading to Bylaw C-1260-187, being an amendment to the Land Use Bylaw. The amendments permit detached suites without requiring internal parking stalls, while regulating the maximum size and height to minimize impact on neighboring properties.
