City Council was proud to present Sunrise House Youth Emergency Shelter with a cheque for $939,556.57 at today's Council meeting representing financial and gift-in-kind supports for their new home.
Council is a strong supporter of Sunrise House and the vital supports they provide for youth in need in the community.
Stormwater Utility Models
Administration provided an update on what the community can expect from the open house sessions on the stormwater utility model being held on Tuesday, February 27.
Residents are invited to two open house sessions to learn more about the proposed models and share their feedback. The sessions take place:
- Date: February 27, 2024
- Location: Teresa Sargent Hall, Montrose Cultural Centre
- Times:
- Morning Session: 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
- Evening Session: 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
The sessions include details on each model, resources for people to take away, and an opportunity to connect with staff to learn more. Full details at engage.cityofgp.com/stormwaterutility.
Community feedback will be presented at the March 11 City Council meeting for a model selection.
Municipal Census
Council approved conducting a Municipal Census in 2024 and authorized Mayor Clayton to send a letter to the Minister of Municipal Affairs.
Strategic Plan 2022-2025 Revision
Council approved the revised version of the Strategic Plan 2022-2025. Under the strategic pillar, Inclusive & Caring Community, the housing area of focus definition was changed from “ensuring our community provides necessary and suitable options for housing” to “creating an environment for diversity of housing in our city.” The rest of the Strategic Plan remains unchanged.
Land Use Bylaw Amendment C-1260-179
City Council passed Land Use Bylaw Amendment C-1260-179. The proposed amendment rezones 50 properties on the City's east side from the County of Grande Prairie’s Land Use Bylaw zoning districts to the equivalent City Land Use Bylaw districts.
Correspondence
Council received a thank you letter from the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation for the City’s support of a $5000 gift-in-kind donation to the Festival of Trees.
Council directed the Mayor to sign the Unanimous Consent for discretionary dividends, as requested by Aquatera Utilities Inc., on behalf of the City of Grande Prairie.
