Here are the highlights from the City Council meeting on August 27, 2018:
Delegations
Several delegations presented in regards to the City of Grande Prairie's Cannabis Retail Bylaws.
A representative of the Avondale Neighbourhood Association presented about signage around the Avondale Park.
A resident of Morgan Meadows attended about traffic safety in their neighbourhood
Unfinished Business
Borrowing Bylaw C-1385- Downtown Rehabilitation & Streetscapes Upgrade- Phase 3
Council gave third reading to the bylaw, approving the borrowing of $12,040,000 to finance the third phase of the Downtown Rehabilitation and Streetscapes Project.
Reports
Business Licence Bylaw- Retail Cannabis Store
Council directed management to bring forward an amending bylaw at the next Infrastructure and Protective Services Standing Committee that would remove the cap on the cannabis retail licenses.
Committee Business
Reallocation of Capital Funds for a new Transit Capital Project (Bus Monitors)
Council requested that the Bus Monitor Project, which would add digital advertising monitors to the buses, be brought forward during the 2019-2022 capital budget discussion.
Canadian Mental Health Association
Council approved the following land and financial transactions with the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA):
- An extension of the lease of the land at Willow Place for an additional 15 years.
- Supporting their proposed 60 unit affordable housing project and 22 unit permanent supportive housing project by waiving fees and levies.
Council has also directed the Mayor to draft letters outlining the support from the City to assist CMHA in their proposed projects.
2018 Property Tax Sale
Council adopted the recommendation that properties subject to the 2017 tax recovery notification be offered for sale by public auction. This auction is set to take place on Friday, November 30, 2018 starting at 9:00 a.m. in the North Conference Room at City Hall.
The reserve bids for the 2018 tax sale were also approved by Council.
The next City Council meeting takes place on Monday, September 10, 2018.
