Here are the highlights from the City Council meeting held on December 16, 2019:
2019 Park Improvement Grant
City Council approved approximately $19,000 in 2019 Park Improvements for local parks in the City, allocated as follows:
- $10,300.50 to the Grande Prairie Cricket Association to go towards the supply and installation of a synthetic turf cricket pitch within the Head & Salmond Family Park located in the Northridge neighbourhood;
- $4,001.00 to the Crystal Heights & Ivy Lake Neighbourhood Association to go towards a new orchard in Crystal Heights Park
- $4,834.73 to the Country Club Neighbourhood Association to go towards a fence around an existing orchard in Country Club Estates
2019 Neighbourhood Enhancement Matching Grants
City Council approved $9,935 in Neighbourhood Enhancement Matching Grants, allocated as follows:
- $5,000 to the Signature Falls Neighbourhood Association to purchase and install a rink conversion kit allowing residents to use their new multi-purpose sports surface year-round. The association will also be purchasing benches to border the rink;
- $1,800 to the Swanavon Neighbourhood Association to create a gathering place with an archway and bench; and
- $4,080 to the Hillside Neighbourhood Association to collaborate with the Canadian Motorcycle Tourism Association to acquire items to create a neighbourhood hub that facilitates community gatherings and recreation at the Veterans Memorial Gardens and Interpretive Centre.
Online Police Reporting
City Council directed Mayor Given to write a letter to the RCMP K-Division command requesting the City of Grande Prairie be considered for a pilot site for online police reporting in support of this program, with copies of the letter to be sent to the Minister of Justice and Solicitor General.
Land Use Bylaw Amendment C-1260-113 - Notification Sign Requirements for Rezoning
City Council amended the Land Use Bylaw to allow for a more streamlined process for rezoning areas that were considered through a public hearing.
2020 Board and Committee Appointments
City Council approved appointments to 11 boards and committees as follows:
- Steve Mills to the Arts Development Committee for a one-year term ending December 31, 2020.
- Tyla Savard to the Assessment Review Board for a three-year term each ending December 31, 2022.
- reappoint Darrel Stoby to the Combative Sports Commission for a three-year term ending December 31, 2022.
- Solomon Okhifoh, Tyla Savard, and Jody Mullin to the Community Enhancement Advisory Committee for a one-year term each ending December 31, 2020.
- Serge Martin and Lynne Coulter to the Council Remuneration Review Committee for a term ending December 31, 2020.
- Ian Penner, Scott Pravitz, and Bernd Manz to the Grande Prairie Airport Commission for a three-year term each ending December 31, 2022.
- Greg Scerbak, Melissa Buyers, Mandy Pollock, and Joyce Makus to the Grande Prairie Public Library Board for a three-year term each ending December 31, 2022.
- Julia Dutave, and Thomas Slifka to the Pursuit of Excellence Committee for a one-year term each ending December 31, 2020.
- Jody Mullin to the Revolution Place Advisory Board for a one-year term each ending December 31, 2020.
- Ian Penner, and Lynne Coulter to the Subdivision & Development Appeal Board for a three-year term each ending December 31, 2022.
