Description
A Development Permit is needed for most new construction, additions/alterations or changes of use. If you are planning changes such as constructing or renovating a building or changing the use of a building, you will need permits from the Planning and Development Department. Development permits deal with a development's impact on surrounding properties. Building permits deal with the structural stability of buildings and the health and safety of the building's occupants.

Fees and Timelines:
The fee for a commercial/industrial or institutional new development is $550.00 base fee plus $75.00 per $100,000.00 of project cost (no maximum limit).
The fee for a commercial/industrial or institutional addition to existing building is $250.00 base fee plus $75.00 per $100,000.00 of project cost (no maximum limit)
The timeline for major development permits is a minimum of 3 weeks, and this would increase if there is a variance to the Land Use Bylaw or discretionary use.
