Beginning Saturday, September 7, the south side of 102 Street and 116 Avenue will be closed for approximately seven days, weather permitting, as part of ongoing roadway improvements.

The closure is taking place to accommodate a Full Depth Reclamation (FDR) and paving operations on 116 Avenue between 102 Street and 100 Street eastbound lanes. Upon completion, traffic will be switched to the eastbound lanes to allow for FDR and paving in the westbound lanes.

Milling operations also begin at the intersection of 100 Street and 116 Avenue on this day. These operations are expected to last for one day, with some minor delays anticipated for traffic in all directions.

Traffic Impacts:

  • Northbound traffic on 102 Street will be detoured eastbound via 115 Avenue. Southbound traffic on 102 Street will not be permitted to pass through the 116 Avenue intersection. West and eastbound traffic on 116 Avenue will not be permitted to turn south onto 102 Street.
  • Variable message boards will be updated to guide drivers through detours and ensure a smooth flow of traffic during the closure.
  • School bus routes will be impacted but this will not effect pick up or drop off. Expect delays. The applicable school busing providers have been notified of the construction and impact to the school bus routes that use 102 Street.

Transit Impacts:

  • City of Grande Prairie Transit Services will experience the following impacts:
    • Stop 820 will be closed for the duration of the construction with riders directed to stop 426.
    • Stop 822 will not be accessed by Route 8, however Route 4 will continue to service this stop as 426.
  • These changes will remain in effect until Northern travel is permitted through the intersection at 102 Street and 116 Avenue.
