Risk Reduction Programs
Risk reduction programs encompass programs within the RCMP, of a generally confidential nature, aimed at reducing the risks associated with illicit activity, wanted persons, and street engagement in residential and commercial areas.
The RCMP recently implemented the Agent program, modelled after the Edmonton Police Services program which allows RCMP members to act as an agent for the participating organization.
Background
The Alberta Government established a law in June 2014, that allows for police officers to eject any person they believe to be associated with a gang from a licensed premise. The AGENT program allows the police officers to act as a representative for the participating organization to eject patrons that they do not wish to be there or people that are deemed to be causing problems. The RCMP officers can then use the Trespass to Premises Act and the Petty Trespass Act to remove these people as they are acting as a representative of the organization.
What This Means for Participants
As part of the Agent program, business owners give authority to RCMP members to act as "Agents" for the property, which in turn gives RCMP members the authority to act on behalf of the owner. For example, the banning of persons from the property. Every business that signs up for this program receives an AGENT sticker with the RCMP crest that is posted visibly near all main entrances. When members respond to that business/building and see that sticker, they then know the building is on board with the program and the problem individual can be removed.
How do I become involved?
For business owners to become involved in the program complete this form and submit it to Grande Prairie AGENT Program. Attend the front counter at the RCMP Detachment for additional support, after completion of the form an AGENT sticker will be provided.
