Candidates for the Office of Mayor and Councillor
Eligible Candidates - Qualifications
To become a candidate, you must be:
- at least 18 years of age;
- a Canadian citizen; and
- a resident of the City of Grande Prairie since March 20, 2021.
Nomination Submission Requirements:
Each candidate must submit the following in-person to the Returning Officer:
A completed Nomination Paper (Form 4) which must be:
- signed by a minimum of twenty-five (25) eligible electors to vote in the Election and that reside in the City of Grande Prairie on the date of signing the Nomination Paper;
- sworn (or affirm) the candidate’s acceptance on the Nomination Paper in the presence of the Returning Officer, a Commissioner for Oaths or Notary Public in and for Alberta; and
- accompanied by a deposit of one hundred dollars ($100.00). This deposit is payable by cash, debit, credit, certified cheque, or money order made payable to the “City of Grande Prairie”. *Pursuant to Section 30(1) of the Local Authorities Election Act & Ministerial Order No. MSD:103/20

Candidates for School Board Trustees
Eligible Candidates - Qualifications
To become a candidate, you must be:
- at least 18 years of age;
- a Canadian citizen; and
- a resident of the City of Grande Prairie since March 20, 2021.
Nomination Submission Requirements:
Each candidate shall submit the following in-person to the Returning Officer:
A completed Nomination Paper (Form 4) which must be:
- signed by a minimum of five (5) eligible electors to vote in the Election and that reside in the Public School Division or the Separate School Division-Ward 1 on the date of signing the Nomination Paper; and
- sworn (or affirm) the candidate’s acceptance on the Nomination Paper in the presence of the Returning Officer, a Commissioner for Oaths or Notary Public in and for Alberta.

Note: You cannot be nominated for more than one office of the same elected authority as per section 23(1) of the Local Authorities Election Act.
