No. You must be a candidate in order to incur candidate expenses. You are not officially a candidate until you file your nomination papers along with your deposit. Nominations can be filed up to 12 noon on September 19, 2022.
Yes. In order to be eligible to run in the election, you need to take a leave of absence prior to becoming a candidate. For more information please refer to the Local Authorities Election Act. Candidates are solely responsible for making sure they are eligible to run.
No. As indicated in the Candidate Packages under “Advertising & Election Signs”, Campaign material and signs must not:
Show a ballot marked for a candidate; and
Use the City of Grande Prairie crest, symbol, logo or brand.
This includes all manner of advertising such as posters, brochures, door-knockers, pamphlets, social media sites, etc… Please review the candidate package pertaining to the office you wish to run for further information.
Election signs can be posted on Private Lands with the permission of Land Owners at any time.
Election signs can be posted on Public Lands "City-Owned Land" as of September 6, 2022. Candidates can use the Municipal Elections Sign App to place "pin" their campaign signs on public land within the interactive App. Click here to view the App.
