Service Areas
Transportation Services is made up of two groups, the Transportation Maintenance staff and the Transportation Engineering staff.
Transportation Maintenance
The Maintenance group is responsible for conducting roadway maintenance work, including:
- snow removal and ice control
- street sweeping
- gravel road and gravel lane maintenance
- dust control application
- pothole repair and asphalt maintenance
- sidewalk repair (concrete, asphalt, unistone)
- bridge, guard rails, and roadway fence maintenance
- railway crossing maintenance

- storm sewer cleaning and maintenance
- drainage ditch maintenance
- runoff control
- Bear Creek spillway
- sign and parking meter repair and maintenance
- street marking maintenance
- traffic signal maintenance (City and Alberta Transportation)
- street lighting maintenance (currently contracted to ATCO Electric)

Transportation Engineering
The Technical group is responsible for engineering and construction issues relating to the roadways, including:
- sponsorship of publicly-funded roadway construction and rehabilitation projects
- inspection and acceptance of new development roadway construction
- traffic control device design and function

- asset management (roads, sidewalks, storm sewers, bridges, trails, and traffic control devices)
- excavation, crossing, barricade and storm sewer connection permits
- access agreements
- utility alignments (franchise and third party)
- engineering support for other departments
